Dell WD19: 130 W vs 180 W
Those numbers describe the power supply. They are not the watts delivered to your laptop.
| Laptop | 130 W supply | 180 W supply |
|---|---|---|
| Compatible Dell laptop | Up to 90 W | Up to 130 W |
| Compatible non-Dell USB-C laptop | Up to 90 W | Up to 90 W |
Which supply do you need?
- 130 W: consider it when Dell lists that WD19 configuration for your laptop and the laptop needs no more than 90 W.
- 180 W: choose it when a compatible Dell laptop needs more than 90 W, up to 130 W.
- Above 130 W: the dock may need help from the laptop’s own charger. Follow the laptop’s docking guidance.
The laptop decides how much power it accepts. Neither supply guarantees fast charging or full performance for every configuration.
Does 180 W improve screen support?
No. The laptop’s video capability, screen resolution and connections set the display limits. Changing the power brick does not turn a WD19 into a Thunderbolt dock.
Buying a used WD19
Check the label on the actual power brick, the matching 7.4 mm plug and the attached computer cable. “WD19 180 W” in a listing does not establish which parts the seller includes.
Check your laptop and power supply
For the original WD19. WD19S, WD19TB and WD19TBS require their own checks.
